The APLH qualification, formerly NCPLH qualification, is needed to apply for a Personal Licence to sell alcohol and advance your career prospects within the licensed retail sector in England and Wales.

The law currently states that anyone wishing to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol must hold a "Personal Licence" issued by their local authority. Once you have gained the APLH qualification you need to apply for your Personal Licence, which we can obtain for you through our Personal Licence Application service.

We currently offer two ways for clients to gain their APLH qualification; scheduled courses are available in over 70 locations nationwide throughout the year and we also provide in-company courses whereby we will come to your place of work and train your staff, providing there are a minimum of 5 learners.

Course Overview
The APLH training course will provide each delegate with a clear understanding of the framework of law and regulation that underpins the responsibilities of the personal licence holder. This will include:

  • Licensing authorities
  • Personal and Premises licences

  • Permitted temporary activities
  • Unauthorised licensable activities
  • Police powers and rights of entry
  • Legal and social responsibilities of the personal licence holder

Who should take this qualification?
The APLH course is aimed at managers, assistant managers and supervisors or staff seeking promotion to one of these positions.
Anyone working in a job role that requires them to authorise retail sales of alcohol in England and Wales must complete the APLH course in order to apply for their personal licence.

Did you know that once you've got your APLH qualification, formerly NCPLH qualification, you've still got to apply to your local council for your personal licence? This process also involves applying to Disclosure Scotland for a CRB check. CPL Training can take the hassle of this away and do your personal licence application for you!
